The third album from versatile duo Oka Vanga blends a rich palette of strings, frets, and percussion with a foot stomping groove.
Strong energetic guitar lines are framed with intricate threads of mandolin and ukulele to create a colourful set of eight songs and four instrumental traditional tunes that have good pace and variety. From the authentic groove of 'Beneath The Apple Tree', to the high energy of 'Seek & Run' Angie has a timeless voice that lends itself to the authenticity of her song writing and emotive lyrics.
Bows Of Yew is a visceral nod to their folk roots whilst the quiet artisan beauty of Johanna is offset by the foot-stomping free-wheeling Whisky For Sorrow.
Joyously vibrant, the self-titled album benefits from tracks mixed by LA producer Thomas Johansen and mastered by GRAMMY Award-Winning Mastering Engineer Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound. Recorded at Unit Studios by Nick Kuzoch, all but four of the tracks were completed before Covid lockdown. Undaunted by Covid restrictions the duo Angie & Will rigged up their spare room to record themselves and completed the album on schedule.
Stellar contributions from guest musicians Patsy Reid (violin, viola, cello) and John Parker (double bass) frame the album and there is a subtle mix of musical influences that gives Angie and Will's new album an exciting edge.
Released by Crazy Bird Records, OKA VANGA is due for official release on 26th March 2021 available on both CD and 12" Vinyl.

WHISKY FOR SORROW
I’m a restless soul, and I’ve been told I need to settle down. By this old sea, room for me, rhythm in the life I’ve found. Drinking apples from cider jars, throwing away the key. Gonna sleep amongst ragged roots, dance by the trees. Whisky for sorrow, rum to keep me sweet, a song for a country dance around the hollow tree. I’m a restless soul and I wanna hold your magic in my hand. So follow me, we’re heading east, to the place where it all began. The road is long, I’m singing away through fields of yellow green. Gonna play guitar, bar to bar, so dance with me. The road is long, I’m singing away, through fields of green, to the hollow tree. Dark rum, dark rum, give me whisky and rum. Gonna play guitar in the ‘Pack ‘O Cards’, dance on the hill. Whistle a tune in the ‘Old Half Moon’, drink my fill. The road is long. I’m singing away through fields of yellow green. Gonna play guitar, bar to bar, so dance with me. Whisky for sorrow, rum to keep me sweet, a song for a country dance around the hollow tree.

This is the perfect soundtrack for my journey to finding my inner peace and calm. Meditative at times, uplifting at others. I love to listen to it on a dark and dreich winter afternoon with candlelight in my bathtub after yoga. stpaulisinger

I first heard Katie Spencer on YouTube when she was featured on the For Bert Jansch playlist. Katie played her own song called Shannon Road. The lead break that she plays twice really got my attention. I became a fan instantly. Every track on this album is lovely. The whole listening experience is like a favourite film running through my head. I'm so glad that in my twilight years I discovered Katie. I wish her a long and succesful career in music. Mitch Wild
